Privacy Policy Statement
The following privacy policy statement is designed to help visitors to the Jersey
Legal Information Board website understand how personal information is collected,
used and safeguarded.
General Visitors
No personal information is collected about general visitors to the JLIB website.
However, your browser supplies some basic information about your visit. The collection
of this information is common practice and is used to analyse and understand how
the website is being used. The following information is logged: IP address (the
internet address of your computer), date and time of your visit, the type of computer,
browser and operating system you are using, the URL's of websites that referred
you to the website and the path you take through the website.
LINK Members and Unreported Judgments Users (back
to top)
When you register as a LINK member, or request access to the full text of the Unreported
Judgments, we will ask you for the following information: name, username, password,
address, company, professional status, e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers,
and your reasons for wishing to become a LINK member or to have access to the Unreported
Judgments. This information will be held in a secure database on our server and
will be used to assess your appropriateness for membership/access to the secure
areas and to provide you with the information or services you request.
All data is held in accordance with Jersey Data Protection legislation and a printed
copy of all of the information we hold that is relevant to you is available upon
request.
Please note that:
- If you apply to be a LINK member and to have access to the full text of the Unreported
Judgments, your username and password will be the same for both.
- Your username is used to identify the posts you make in the LINK Discussion Forum,
although these can only be viewed by other LINK members.
- You can change your password at any time by logging on and clicking on the Change
Password link.
- If you forget your username and/or password you can email the Membership Administrator
and request for it/them to be emailed to you.
Cookies (back to top)
A cookie is a small piece of information that many websites write to a computer's
hard drive when a visit is made to a website; cookies can either be stored temporarily
(i.e. for the duration of your visit to a particular website) and are known as "session"
cookies, or on a permanent basis (although you can delete them at any time). Cookie
files are extremely small, comprising no more than 255 characters and 4KB of disk
space and can contain a variety of information.
The JLIB website uses session cookies as part of the log-in process for LINK members
and Unreported Judgments users. You must have session cookies enabled in order to
log-in to these secure areas of the JLIB website.
To check your settings in Microsoft Internet Explorer go to Tools --> Internet
Options and click on the Security tab. Click on the Internet symbol and then click
on the "Custom Level..." button. Scroll down to the Cookies section
and make sure that "Allow per-session cookies (not stored)" is set to Enable).
To check your settings in Netscape Navigator 6 go to Edit --> Preferences. Expand
the Advanced category and Click on the Cookies
sub-category. Make sure that "Enable all cookies" is selected.
The cookie simply contains an ID number (it does not store any personal information)
which enables us to track your details from one browser session to another. This
means that we can provide you with a more personalised service: for example, within
the LINK Discussion Forum, the time and date of your last visit can be stored so
that you can view all posts made since your last visit.
Disclosure of Information to Third Parties (back to
top)
JLIB will not sell, trade, or lease personal information (including e-mail addresses)
to third parties.
