CHEQUES (AMENDMENT) (JERSEY) LAW 1995

A LAW       to amend the Cheques (Jersey) Law 1957, sanctioned by Order of Her Majesty in Council of the

THE STATES, subject to the sanction of Her Most Excellent Majesty in Council, have adopted the following Law –

ARTICLE 1

After Article 3 of the Cheques (Jersey) Law 19571 (hereinafter referred to as “the principal Law”) there shall be inserted the following Article –

“ARTICLE 3A

Non-transferable cheques

                   Where a cheque is crossed and bears across its face the words ‘account payee’ or ‘a/c payee’, either with or without the word ‘only’, the cheque shall not be transferable, but shall only be valid as between the parties thereto.”.

ARTICLE 2

In sub-paragraph (a) of paragraph (2) of Article 4 of the principal Law after the word “cheques” there shall be inserted the words “(including cheques which under Article 3A of this Law or otherwise are not transferable)”.

ARTICLE 3

This Law may be cited as the Cheques (Amendment) (Jersey) Law 1995 and shall come into force on such day as the States may by Act appoint.
