Access
to Justice (Legal Aid Guidelines) (Jersey) Order 2021
1 Publication of proposed Legal Aid Guidelines
(1) For
the purposes of Article 7(5) of the Access to Justice
(Jersey) Law 2019, the Minister must provide a copy of the Minister’s
proposal for the Legal Aid Guidelines to –
(a) the relevant Scrutiny
Panel;
(b) the Jersey Citizens
Advice Bureau Limited; and
(c) the Jersey Consumer
Council.
(2) The
Minister must publish the Minister’s proposal for the Legal Aid Guidelines,
which must include the full text of the proposed Legal Aid guidelines.
(3) The
Minister must publish a notice stating –
(a) that the proposal for the
Legal Aid Guidelines is available to the public –
(i) on a website managed by the States of
Jersey, and giving the address of that website, and
(ii) in paper copy, on
request;
(b) the time period, being no
less than 8 weeks commencing on the date that the Minister’s proposal for the
Legal Aid Guidelines is published, during which members of the public may make
representations about the proposal;
(c) a postal address at which
written representations from the public will be accepted; and
(d) an email address at which
email representations from the public will be accepted.
(4) The
notice may include alternative means in which a member of the public who is
unable to communicate in writing may make representations on the Minister’s
proposal.
2 Citation and
commencement
This Order may be cited as the Access to Justice (Legal Aid
Guidelines) (Jersey) Order 2021 and comes into force 7 days after it is made.
