History of the Tables des Décisions

The Tables were published in 11 separate volumes and cover the period from 1885 to 1978. The first 10 volumes are in the French language. The eleventh and final volume was published in the English language (other than for entries relating to the Heritage Division of the Court which remain in the French language).

It was not the practice of the Court until 1950 to record the reasons for its decisions in the Act of Court (or at all).

In 1950 Jersey Judgments were introduced and for the first time the Royal Court started publishing reasoned judgments in the English style. Between 1950 and 1963 the Tables and the Jersey Judgments existed side by side but the old fashioned Table ceased to be published in 1963.

A slightly modified Table was published for the years 1964 to 1978 and the preface to that eleventh volume states that that volume is slightly different in from to the old fashioned Table and that cases reported in the Jersey Judgment series are not included in the Table for 1964 to 1978.

The Jersey Judgments were replaced by the Jersey Law Reports in 1985.

The Royal Court Books are now all held at:
