GENOCIDE (AMENDMENT) (JERSEY) LAW, 1987.

A LAW           to amend the Genocide (Jersey) Law, 1969, sanctioned by Order of Her Majesty in Council of the

 

25th day of NOVEMBER, 1986.

THE STATES, subject to the sanction of Her Most Excellent Majesty in Council, have adopted the following Law –

ARTICLE 1

In Article 1 of the Genocide (Jersey) Law, 19691

(a)     in sub-paragraph (a) of paragraph (2) for the word “death” there shall be substituted the words “imprisonment for life”; and

(b)     after paragraph (2) there shall be inserted the following paragraph –

“(2A)      On sentencing any person convicted of genocide to imprisonment for life, the Court may at the same time declare the period which it recommends as the minimum period which in its view should elapse before that person is released from prison on licence.”.

ARTICLE 2

This Law may be cited as the Genocide (Amendment) (Jersey) Law, 1987.
